Synopsis
Since the death of his parents, Shinpei Ajiro had lived with the Kofune family and their two daughters—Mio and Ushio. Although he then left his home island to continue his education in Tokyo, Shinpei returns after Ushio tragically drowns during the attempted rescue of a little girl. During the funeral, his best friend informs him about bruises found around Ushio’s neck, casting doubt over the cause of her death.

A giant shadow massacres everyone at the Hitogashima Summer Festival and engulfs the whole island.

Hizuru Minakata, the woman on the ferry, returns to Hitogashima Island hoping to solve a mystery.

In order to defeat the Kobayakawa’s shadows, Shinpei and Hizuru join forces with Nezu.

Mio’s shadow appears before Shinpei and threatens him with a knife.
Episode 9 - My Flowing Tears
In a video, Ushio and her shadow recount their encounter up to the moment the video is recorded.
Episode 10 - Into the Darkness
Shinpei gains clues on Mount Takanosu since Ushio and her shadow had gone there.
Episode 11 - Dinner Time
Ushio, Sou and Shinpei are surrounded by shadows.
Episode 12 - Bloody Night
Tokiko, Sou’s younger sister, reveals she has been offering corpses as food to Hiruko.
Episode 13 - Friends
It is the fifth July 22nd for Shinpei. Hizuru takes time to process that Shinpei is a time traveler.
Episode 14 - To Be/Not to Be
Shinpei finds himself in Hizuru’s memories from fourteen years ago.
Episode 15 - Lights Camera Action
Heine, who loops like Shinpei, realizes the pattern of behavior when a new loop begins.

Mio proposes to turn the shadows into allies.
Episode 17 - Determination
Shinpei hears about Shide’s identity from Sou’s father, Director of Hishigata Clinic.

A seventy-year-old photograph reveals the truth.

Karikiri and Heine strike. Mio and Hizuru learn of Ushio’s death.
Episode 20 - All is (not) Lost.
Hizuru and Karikiri face off, while Gil and Rose enter the fray.
Episode 21 - Shinpei Ajiro's Longest Day
Shinpei despairs over Hizuru’s death. However, hope is on the horizon.
Episode 22 - Return
Ushio fully comes back to life. Shinpei heads to Hiruko’s grotto.
Episode 23 - Everlasting Night
After slicing down Heine, Shide brings Shinpei and Ushio to her home.
Episode 24 - Summertime Re-Rendering
After a fierce battle, Shinpei takes the place of an exhausted Ushio and confronts Shide.
Episode 25 - I'm Home
Shide is gone and Ushio’s final iteration must vanish. Shinpei comes to on the morning of July 22nd.
